![]() Kotaku’s become my fourth because they catch some cultural stuff that the other sites skip, and I find that valuable. Polygon has a good archive page, but also covers a lot of movies and TV that I have to sift through, though they’re also pretty good at catching most stuff. Eurogamer is also right up there, though when I’m looking for a week’s worth of news, I don’t especially like their archive page. They also tend to keep their center column free from too much feature-y stuff, guides, and deals content. These days I find to be my first stop for news stuff, as they’ve got a good mix of actual, knowledgeable people there and a good round-up of what is being reported elsewhere. Like, yes, they _also_ have EVERYTHING WE KNOW ABOUT THIS EVENT AND/OR GAME stories, but… the entire fucking internet has that, too, so singling out Kotaku for it feels very weird. Kotaku’s wider coverage of streaming/streamers and labor issues and stuff means I usually find 1-3 things that I don’t see anywhere else. Release date notifications, interesting interview quotes taken out of context, whatever. IGN has “IGN Deals” links, which are at least clearly labeled, but then has other deal links in the main column that… aren’t? Fanbyte gutted its edit team to focus on SEO-friendly guide coverage almost exclusively, which is a choice.Īs someone who checks out a lot of sites about twice a week, I routinely find stories that are on every single site in the exact same order. Lotta commerce links and bullshit showing up on the GameSpot home page these days. Like if you want to claim that everything that Kotaku is doing is clickbait or whatever then you must really hate every other major publication, too. It’s been through a lot of different eras as new EICs join and leave and has been a pretty dramatically different site under each of those leads. Questions? Suggestions? Complaints?
